I did it!
So, I finally broke down and bought the nook! (it helped that my bonus at work made that possible) I havent used it yet, but ive been messing with it and so far its really cool! Heres the funny thing about it. When we went to the Bookstore to buy it, the guy at the Nook stand was talking about it compared to the Kindle and then the applications for the Ipad or Iphone. He said that the nooks and the kindles are for hardcore readers. It doesnt really browse the web, it will, but its not for that, its for reading. Which I love. I have a computer. I wanted something that I could use at my fingertips :) Pictures to follow!

Interesting Reads
So, As you know (or maybe not) I work in an Autobody shop. I had a customer come in for an estimate on friday and she had a book. I commented on it and we ended up getting into a long conversation about reading. Its weird because she was probably 30 years older then me and we were able to connect on the fact that people dont read anymore. Its the technical age and books arent warranted as entertainment anymore...why? The imagination isnt needed when video game companies and movie makers do all the work for you.
We got to talking about authors and the types of genres we like and she told me that she had a freind who was an author and was in the hospital. This freind was alive during WW2 and had written a book about her struggles growing up in a community where the germans were once their neigbors and freinds to the Germand being hated because of Hitler and how she escaped being carted off to Russia to be enslaved when the war ended. This is so exceptional to me because she never had it published, but she has written something that means the world to her, something that you can never take away from her, her expierences. Thats amazing to me. I would love to write a book, and maybe one day I will. But for now... I will continue to read everyone elses.

Nook vs Book
Ok, so I think I might have to renig a little of what I said the other day about ever getting sick of books.... (no im not sick of books!) but I must tell you; I have heard so many stories of people who have switched to the Kindle and now the Nook by Barnes and Noble and I was in a form of dismay... why would anyone not want to go and buy a book? Who could replace them?? Now everything is in the compter age?? I know that my husband Jarrod was going to buy me the I PAD to download the Kindle applcation so that no matter where I was, a book was at my fingertips. I researced it and let me tell you something..... EXPENSIVE!!! I already have a netbook so I dont need the compter application, I just wanted to the Kindle application... so why not buy a kindle you ask?? im not sure i was impressed with it. Jarrod and myself got home last night after a dinner of sushi.... yumm! and our roomates girlfriend was sitting on the couch reading something; it looked like the back of a dvd case, but as I looked closer (yes, im nosey) I noticed it was the Nook. I asked if I could look at it and I fell in love at once!!! Its not here to replace books, its here to make them more accesible! How many times have I been at work or in the car with Jarrod and I finished my book and wished I had grabbed another one. And its not that easy to just pull into a bookstore and buy another one. I immediatly begged Jarrod to let me buy one.... thats still in debate but Im pretty sure I will win.... I will let you know how I like it!

I can read with my eyes shut!
I Can Read With My Eyes Shut!
Dr. Seuss
I can read in red. I can read in blue.
I can read in pickle color too.
I can read in bed, and in purple. and in brown.
I can read in a circle and upside down!
I can read with my left eye. I can read with my right.
I can read Mississippi with my eyes shut tight!
There are so many things you can learn about.
But…you'll miss the best things
If you keep your eyes shut.
The more that you read, the more things you will know
The more that you learn, the more places you'll go.
If you read with your eyes shut you're likely to find
That the place where you're going is far, far behind
SO…that's why I tell you to keep your eyes wide.
Keep them wide open…at least on one side.

I never really noticed until today
I was hanging out with my mom and sister, and we had gotten everything done. We were walking by the Barnes and Noble and it was like I was drawn to the front doors. My mom laughed at me because she said that it was like a magnet bringing me in. Books are like my religion...lol:) I literally cannot walk by a bookstore and not walk in. The smell of books greeting you at the door, the low hum of voices and the rustling of paper. Its addicting to just walk around and look at all the titles. all the possibilites. New Authors, new stories to be told, and to be read. Some real, educational and some just for your soul. But you get to choose, browse and walk away with something that will let you escape; even if its just for a little while.
I dont know if I will ever change, if I will ever breakdown and buy the kindle and get with the modern era and actually download a book, but I cant... i cant give up the excitement of turning the pages of a book and submerging yourself in someone elses life. Is there anything that does that for you???

Emily Giffin
Hey all! So, I have been reading alot of Emily Giffin lately. She has a few books out, and so far I have read; Something Borrowed, something blue, Baby Proof and Love the one your with. The books are so cute!! They are an easy page turner with a message and a little something for everyone! Easily one of my favorite female writers. Whenever I am done with one of her books; I am on a search for another one.
Something Borrowed (Movie in the making with Kate Hudson and Ginnifer Goodwin) follows the lives of 2 best freinds. The "pretty" girl (Darcy) who always gets her way and her best "plain jane" freind and the triangle that becomes upon them when "plain jane"(Rachel) sleeps with "pretty girls" fiance and endsup falling for him. It shows you the fine line between the love you have for your freinds and the love you feel for your "soul mate".
Something Blue: A prequel to something borrowed follows Darcy on her journey to another Continent to figure out her life. (I dont want to ruin the first book, so read it!!!)
Love the one your with: Follows a married woman and her journey to see if the one she married is the one she is supposed to be with or if her old boyfreind is the one that got away. Eearing and very well written. It shows you the decisions you make are usually the correct ones.
Baby Proof: Meet Claudia who goes through life with the notion that she is the only person who doesnt want children, until she meets Ben. Fast foward 3 years into their marriage and Ben turns the table on Claudia. How far will one woman go to keep things the way they are and what will she risk??
Emily Giffin has a gift of taking everyday issues of women and describing it in such a way that makes you think about the life you live, the people you love and the decisions that define you.

Walter Moer
Imagine your wildest dreams as a child, ones where you can fly, be a pirate, a hero, go to far away places, Walter Moers does that for the adult. His works include 13 1/2 lives of Captian Blue Bear which follows the first 13 1/2 lives of a ....yes you guessed it,.... a blue bear. Life of Rumo, City of Dreaming books, and The Alchemaster's Assistant. They are magical, dream worthy stories that let you forget your everyday doings and let you live in far away places. They let you fight battles that you always win, meet freinds that are so loyal and let you show your true colors. It gives you a chance to be what you always dreamed of as a child.
I would have to say that Walter Moers is one of my favorite authors, if you have a chance to read him.... DO IT!!!
synopsis:
13 1/2 lives of Captian Bluebear: Follows the first 13.5 years of a blue bear, from his very first memory floating in the ocean in a walnut shell, to attending school in hte Gloomberg Mountians, being lost in the Dimensional Hiatus to becoming a hero aboard the SS Moloch. Its an epic journey that begs for more.
Rumo and his Miraculous Adventures; " Rumo is a little Wolperting who will one day become the greatest hero in the History of Zamonia, with Dandilion his talking sword". (You meet a wolperting once in captian blue bear)
The City of dreaming books: Optimus Yarnspinner becomes entrapped in the magic of Bookholm or better known as the city of dreaming books on a quest to find the author of a very special and very "wanted" manuscript tha was left to him by his grandfather. Its a story of following through to the end and the importance of a book.
Alchemasters Apprentice: Meet Echo the cat who lives in the unhealthiest town in Zamonia, he makes a deal in the heat of the moment that may change his life forever. In search of food, he strikes a deal with the scariest, meanest most brilliant Alechmaster. He will be fed the most wonder ful fullfilling foods and never have a want or a need if after the next full moon he must be boiled down for his fat. Its a story of not knowing what you have and learning how to get what you want.
The thing about these books is that you meet similar characters, similar places, you feel as if you walked down the streets of Zamonia before, looking on as the characters of each book scurry on withe their business and you are in admist all of it, You hear the music, you smell the smells that hover in the air, the chill in the alleys. Read and reread them over and over. :))
